Learning about health helps to keep us well.
In 2007, Literacy Nipissing received funding from Ontario Trillium Foundation to complete a multi-year project to raise awareness of the extra health risks of people with low literacy skills. In working with literacy learners, we developed the “Ask Me 3” brochure. This tool can be used by tutors and learners to identify the 3 main questions that learners can ask to better understand their health. This project also created many resources and tools that tutors and learners can use to make sure that their health needs are met and managed. One of the best resources developed is a binder that all learners can complete about their health history. Learners can share this tool with doctors to make appointments easier.
All of the resources created are available for all tutors and learners. If you would like more information about the projects and the material created, please contact us.
